Smart Concrete
Smart
concrete has made from carbon fibre reinforced concrete. It has a very high
compressive strength. This concrete has a sense of strain or stress. By using
admixture it becomes sensor. This sensing ability is due to the change of
electrical resistance.
Types of Smart Concrete
Ø Transparent Concrete
Ø High Volume Fly
Ash Concrete
Ø Silica Fumes Concrete
Ø Self Healing Concrete
Ø Light Weight Concrete
Ø Polymer Concrete
Ø Self Compacting Concrete
Ø Bacterial concrete
Ø Fibre-reinforced concrete
Ø Pervious concrete
Ø Water-proof concrete
Ø Temperature controlled
concrete
Ø Coloured concrete
It
is widely used to construct civil engineering marvellous building, highway,
bridges, runways for airport, continuous slab-type sleepers for high-speed
trains, dams, and nuclear power plants, and especially has great potential in
the field of structural health monitoring, traffic.
It
contain short carbon fibres, typically 5 mm in length, Fibre content is 0.2
vol. % of cement, Silica fume content is 15% by weight of cement,
Methylcellulose content is 0.4% by weight of cement.
Main
drawback of this concrete is that it is quite costly than
normal concrete so becomes uneconomical. It is not suitable for
Indian atmospheric condition. It gives better results only if comes in contact
with water.
